Unblocked Unblocked is the equivalent of a fascinating PBS documentary. A quick glance at the 72-page booklet will teach you more about the history, geography and the culture of Eastern Europe than you could have ever picked up in high school. Couple the extensive liner notes with three discs touring the sounds of these regions and you have yet another essential compilation for any collection of world music. The eerie choral singing from Macedonia is contrasted with the simple folk spirit of the Latvian lap-harp. Covering 18 countries, each with their own rich traditions, this compilation isn't devoid of Western influence -- but the majority of the tracks do hold to traditional forms and instruments. Serbian brass bands and Bulgarian Gypsy music bring a spirit of celebration, while the lonely Slovakian shepherd's flute dwells in contemplation. You may have to break the bank to purchase this, but it isn't every day that you'll find Eastern European music wrapped up in such a congenial package.
